The Science

 of

Quite Clean, Ltd.®

We have all heard of sick buildings, a world of allergens and mold, a coming invasion of germs and viruses, the explosion in the armies of bed bugs, dust mites, roaches, and other unwanted vistors -

what can you do?

How about getting

"360 degrees of Clean?"©

We started on our quest after we had done a project for our construction company division  involving electrical wiring and computer cabling.

When our techs had to open the ceiling tiles they would complain about the dust and then a few days later they would often be sick which got us thinking why?

We could see that there was dust there and got to thinking about what sort of toxic material was in the dust, what the actual composition was and how did it get there.

We got to thinking about how the dust got there since there was nothing in the construction of the building that would do that.

A common belief is that it comes from the HVAC venting but that is nonsense since all systems have or should have a HEPA filter on them.

Can you imagine the possibilities for Hollywood if that was true?

Bruce Willis fighting enraged giant spiders growing in the vent system while he heroically fights on to save the day?

Or news stories like :

Heavy gunfire broke out today in a downtown office building as SWAT teams fought to save a secretary from sure death at the hands of vent creatures.

Shear nonsense and sales science fiction all of it, the answer is much easier and yet in a way much less palatable.

Dust is everywhere- you’ve seen it surrounding the HVAC vents, on your desk Monday morning after a long weekend, on the plastic plants, in the sunbeam your child was playing with.

You see it and wonder why it was missed by the cleaners.

It wasn’t missed; what you are seeing is just more that landed after the cleaning crew left.

It got there by air circulation jostling it off of the walls, ceilings and other surfaces in the room during your absence and after the cleaners left.

That same air circulation that heats or cools your office lifted it up and spun it around the room, to be released in whorls clinging around the vents (because of centrifugal force), and at the same time coating the walls, other ceiling areas, furniture, etc.

CMHC has some interesting observations on duct cleaning which basically came down to the fact that if you do have moisture and mold in the ducts you need more than a duct sucker, you need Mike Holmes.

This is especially true in a house with pets since they shed too, yes, they all shed, unless they are dolls.

Have you ever noticed a spider web that lay on the surface of the ceiling almost or the one that was just a tendril hanging with dust on it?

Ever wondered what that spider eats?

Dust mites.

What do they eat?

Dust that is composed of dead, flaked off skin (dander), hair bits, some lint from clothing and of course bug bits and excrement.

Imagine: skin and hair bits.

Toxic?

Yes because they are a good growing ground for mold.

Not what we expected to find.

Further investigation revealed that our entire body mass is replaced once every seven years with skin and hair being replaced much more often.

It goes past the ceiling tiles because the HVAC pressurizes the room when it cycles and fills the area above them and depending on the humidity it grows there, the mould spores, germs and viral contaminants creating a toxic stew that sometimes forces us from our homes, schools, places of work, cruise ships….

That is what was causing our employees to get sick.

If you took the tester kit which we use, exposed it to this air and then followed the instructions you would see that in the agar material in the now sealed petri dish would start to get material growing on it which could be indentified as black mould, brown mould or other toxins.

A little known fact is that clothes should be turned inside out to properly wash them and remove the skin and oils trapped in the fabric which gives them a distinct smell if stored for a while.

Symptoms of poor Indoor Air Quality are:

-Respiratory problems
-Headaches
-Colds and the flu
-Lack of concentration
-Low energy
-Depression

which leads to

-Decreased productivity
-Increased absenteeism
-Spread of illness/infections

Another problem with the dust above the ceiling tiles is that when left in place it builds up presenting a

fire hazard since skin and hair burns.

This danger has cost a number of fire fighters their lives.

This has also been the cause of numerous incidents involving electricians, HVAC techs and plumbers where just a spark sets off a fire.

Brushing the tile faces simply pushs the dust into the holes in the tiles, sort of like filling the larder for the dust mitesor to be shaken out later.

You see it as darker holes generally around vents or doorways,

We went looking for a solution for our staff and discovered a much bigger problem so we spent some time and came up with our

"360 Degrees of Clean" ©

solution.

We now have special equipment that can clean the tiles in an environmentally sound manner
.

Further, we have developed wands designed to remove the dust above the tiles in a manner that does not create dust storms that then take ages to resolve.

Having gone that far we have designed a way to stop the dust from going past the tiles which is the subject of patents as we speak.

The equipment to do the ceilings can also be used to clean the walls and other hard surfaces too.

Then we looked at the other surfaces exposed to germs etc, like those padded dividers used to create cubicles and the material on the office furniture or furniture in the house like sofas and beds and we got systems to do that too.

All of the equipment we use is designed to be low moisture to protect the material, removing the swamp effect you get sometimes from a truck mounted or plug in wet extraction system meaning that there is no encouragement for bacteria, fungus or molds to develop.

The chemicals we use are EPA approved and of the highest standard.

Our equipment uses household power which means that there is no V-8 powered motor running its heart out in a van outside your site adding to the green house problems we face.

When we say quite clean we mean

!!!!!CLEAN!!!!!

So why is the issue of a poor inside environment a problem now and yet our parents seemed to get along just fine?

In the past offices and houses had 10’ or higher high ceilings and the offices had vents and fans.

The heat often came from baseboard radiators that used passive circulation. In some cases they even used the high efficiency in-floor heat systems invented by the Romans.

The big deal was no pressurized air systems.

The air vent system in the ceiling of an old office actually was removing the stale air like cigarette smoke, perfumes, etc.

If a pressurized system was in place then there was a cold air plenum (duct) at floor level to balance the flow ensuring fresh air for the occupants.

In most buildings the windows in the upper part of the casements also opened allowing passive air circulation for cooling.

But the biggest thing was that the surfaces were all hard and easy to clean which was done once a year in the spring.

If you had a soft surface it was a pad on your chair which you bought, used and cleaned...

To some degree it was the same in the homes of the employees as well, where often mom was at home and cleaned all the time anyways.

Times change and now we never seem to have enough of it to do the chores around the house and so a little air freshener, which the commercials show as being the thing to do, and we can move on to the next chore.

Quite Clean doesn't see it that way and we have a cost effective way to make your house as fresh as all indoors can be.

Our teams can clean just about everything in your office or house for you with certified, ecologically sound chemicals and make your house the one your neighbours wish they had.

If you are thinking of selling your house, think of getting a "360 Degree Cleaning Job" tm.

Just don’t blame us if the family decides they want to stay put afterwards.
